“Why do you take politics so personally.”
What if I told you
that these policies
affect me personally?
And also like, the ones that don’t affect me personally? They affect other people. Who are also humans with feelings and needs.
Like does it affect me that pensioners might be getting a cut in their payments? Nope. But it does affect those pensioners, who are already struggling to get by, and that extra $10 a week means the difference between whether they get to have a proper dinner every night or live off the reduced bread from the discount grocer.
Does Australia’s detention policies for refugees affect me? Of course not. But people are suffering and harming themselves and being abused and this is AFTER they’ve left their entire world behind to flee to what they thought would be safety.
And on and on and on.
A lot of politics I care about because it will affect my life, but so much more I care about because I’m not a fucking monster who is indifferent to human suffering.
