White millenials voted for Trump 48% to 42%
White women voted for Trump 53% to 43%
White college graduates voted for Trump 49% to 45%

The problem isn’t babyboomers, men or ignorance. The problem is white supremacy.

I made a lot of posts about the elections, all without tags, and only this one was flooded with comments by Trump supporters. Many of them posting the usual neonazi propaganda about ‘white people protecting themselves from going extinct’ & shit.
So how did they find my post? My guess is this post shows up when you search for ‘white supremacy’ on Tumblr and white supremacists are purposely scanning that term and targetting people who write about it.
So, ya know, be aware that that may be a thing going on at the moment. Stay safe.

Having hundreds of neonazis commenting on this post was not fun, so imagine my horror this morning when this post had many thousands of notes and my relief when it turned out they were mostly positive and supportive.

There’s a lot to be said about what’s behind the widespread popularity of fascism in the US and EU and the rise of Trump in particular. If you think the answer is more complex than ‘white supremacy’, you’re right. It was never my intention to claim that the whole problem can be pinned down on just that. Capitalism, sexism, homophobia, the failure of elections to create a genuine rule of the people, etc all have their part to play.
My point making this post was simply that we can not make babyboomers, men or uneducated people into a boogeyman. When we speak about the return of fascism and it’s roots we have to face that the only statistic that is consistent is that white people of every gender, age and education level have supported Trump in large numbers. And whatever their total set of reasons, in doing so they’ve shown that a rampant racist can get their support. This problem is much bigger than Trump voters. When Hillary supporters were willing to justify her violence against POC they too showed what they were willing to accept.
We have to face how deeply rooted racism (and its most dangerous feature: apathy to the suffering of POC) really is. If you’re white (like me), this is not fun. It’s easier to blame it on babyboomers and not worry about how many people in your job, school and family would support a white supremacist if the benefits seemed good enough. It’s not fun to think about how much violence you yourself are willing to tolerate as long as no one you know is effected. But damn, we really have to.
(And not in a ‘we should revel in self hatred’ way. Rephrasing anti-white supremacy as anti-white is one of the ways fascists win people over.)

So if you’re one of the people disagreeing with me on this post but genuinely looking for answers and ways to turn the tide against fascism: thanks. You’re pretty cool.
