Since conversion therapy is looming in everyone’s consciousness right now:

This is your regular reminder that ABA, the generally-recommended therapy for autistic children, is literally conversion therapy with an extra dose of “auties aren’t even real people” thrown in for good measure. It was conceived by the same people, from the same research, for the same ends: To brutalize and torture children into a narrow range of “acceptable” behaviour.

And it is considered totally legitimate and valid and even preferred by the overwhelming majority of the medical industry.

Do not leave disabled people out of your activism.

It’s so bad that there are huge segments of the psychiatric community who consider ABA ‘necessary treatment’ for autistic children. Think about that for a moment. Do you want to be the parent who ‘withholds necessary treatment’ from your child? If you’re not rich and powerful enough you could lose your children. It’s evil.

I remember being forced to endure this ‘therapy’ as a child in special ed. It was deeply humiliating, painful, and traumatic. I only understood what was going on years later. As a child it just felt like torture.

It was torture.
