I’ve also seen a trend of people not knowing what to look for wrt anarchism. […] I think people really do believe that like revolutionary Spain was our greatest accomplishment. And no shade to Madrid but I think it misses the point entirely.
People are looking for anarchist *states* when they think of what we do. It’s no wonder they don’t see the roots and legacies of anti-authoritarians in literally every culture since the beginning of time leading the charge in some of the most significant advances of all history. Whether anarchist-identified or not, the struggle against coercion and domination is the thread that binds basically any freedom that exists in the world as we know it.
Anarchism isn’t a statist movement. Maybe we’ll always be in the eddies and crevices of power, but that’s where we thrive and create bc that’s what anarchism is. The basic striving for empathy or meaningful connection beyond the mediations and obstructions of dominance is centrally human and thoroughly anarchist. It shouldn’t be hard to find what it is and why it’s a worthy and evolving collection of nuanced heuristics.
