White millenials voted for Trump 48% to 42%
White women voted for Trump 53% to 43%
White college graduates voted for Trump 49% to 45%The problem isn’t babyboomers, men or ignorance. The problem is white supremacy.
so what do we do
use your privilege to acknowledge the wrong doings of other white people and fight for the rights of people who don’t look like you
What we should do is exactly what you are doing now: question how to really fight white supremacy all around us. In our school, neighbourhood, sports club, office, circle of friends, in our family anf in ourselves. Examine where white supremacy gets it’s power and how we can dismantle it.
When I made this post just after the election of Trump, I wasn’t really interested in explaining the whole rise of fascism in one post. That would require way more words.
I was interested in shutting down white millenials who tried to blame it all on an older generation while ignoring the racism in their own group, white women who tried to blame it all on men while ignoring the racism in their own group, and white college graduates who tried to blame it all on ignorance while ignoring the racism in their own group.
In my perception, these were narcissistic attempts to distance oneself from an ugly truth, to fit the election results into a narrative that kept their self esteem in tact. I wanted to break that down.
So this post was meant to be step 1 towards starting to think critically about fascism and white supremacy in a way that doesn’t dismiss your own role in it, not as the full manual towards defeating fascism.
