People in “the discourse” have (among many other things):

– compared aces to Trump

– compared aces to a literal slave owner

– compared aces+aros to a number of at best shitty and sometimes abusive+murderous fictional characters

– said being asexual affords privilege bc being desexualized is apparently now a privilege (those were their words, saying we’re desexualized and that this is a privilege)

– harassed aces/ors or supported ppl harassing aces/aros or ppl defending aces/aros

– in numerous instances wished brutal violence and death on aces and aros or subsets of aces+aros

– tried to erase ace+aro PoC from our communities

– erased so many of our identities in general

– said we can’t headcanon characters belonging to the same oppressed groups as us as ace/aro bc for example it’d be racist if the character is a PoC

– linked being aro to just using ppl (and behaving like monsters let’s be real)

– spread outright lies about our communities (like the claim that “ala” was ever an “ace community” term “we” stole when literally it was like one untagged post with almost no notes using it they could show us, an anon ask and later a post by an almost definitely troll blog who took the term from “the discourse”. Oh also that time when they claimed we were all white with just a few negligible “tokens”, pointing to a survey from a racist site that counted ace/aro as well as non-ace/aro respondents and only respondents from the US and that as a site many ace/aro PoC left due to racism… also even there it definitely wasn’t just white ppl lol)

– as white ppl compared aces+aros (including ace+aro PoC) disagreeing with them to vile racists

– as white ppl talked over ace+aro PoC about racism, so many times

– taken harmless posts by aces+aros and mocked them, in at least one instance calling a nd WoC (=me lol) “incoherent” and making fun of her for this

– called us a “sexuality fandom” full of privileged ppl (again the identity erasure with some extra despicable bullshit, smooth)

– claimed conservatives love us (=serious misunderstanding of asexuality, ignoring aromanticism, and oh yeah assuming bullshit “purity” ideals are applied by conservatives to everyone. Like no do u know how racism works, I’m never gonna be their ideal whatever I do lol)

– so so often claimed talking about being ace is like divulging details about “our sex lives” and that we thus can’t talk about being ace to anyone but a partner™, since otherwise we’re weird, icky, not normal, etc. And the anti-ace/aro crowd a large refuses to see this as a problem even after we explained to them again and again it’s toxic, sexualizing us and among other things racist (as it seriously harms ace PoC)

– made fun of or dismissed us when we called pretty much any of this shit out, often shrugging off us being dehumanized and treated like dirt by going, “well there r shitty ppl in the ace+aro communities so it’s okay”

I could back most of this stuff up with links but I worry about bringing shit to ppl’s doors so I’d rather not do it in this post.

Also I may add more to this list later kind of in a hurry right now.

Anyway, the anti-ace/aro crowd? Pretty damn horrible

I hate that they justify this by saying “there’s shitty people in the ace/are community” like there aren’t transphobic/biphobic/racist people in the Gay and Lesbian communities, and yet there’s no discourse about wether or not we should exclude their entire community based on this.

Before anyone calls me lesbophobic/homophobic I say this as an ace lesbian

Can i back you up on this as a non-ace pansexual? I don’t see anyone calling for the expulsion of cis gay guys because of Milo fucking Yiannopolis, and let’s be honest, his existence alone lends a lot of clout to that suggestion.

They have the nerve to call statements like that “homophobic generalizations,” when the entire motive for ace expulsion is because people saw a few shitty individual aces and decided to use those examples as an excuse to mar the whole group.
