can we please stop acting like gender and sex aren’t synonymous from a legal perspective, and that legal issues surrounding nonbinary gender aren’t also intersex issues??
seen a lot of people lately complaining about the mention of intersex people in sex marker discourse and it’s like… you know the sex marker issue was a main point in intersex activism before it came to the forefront in nonbinary activism right??? and that intersex issues are intrinsically linked to transgender issues, and vis versa, in a lot of ways?? trying to separate out intersex social issues and trans social issues for the purpose of political correctness and identity politics is incredibly ahistorical; gender and sex assignment fucks everyone.
It is essential to admit that intersex and trans stories are different, that a trans person can not tell an intersex story just because they read the wikipedia page, etc.
It is also essential to acknowledge the many ways in which these struggles are interlinked, historically and in practice.
When I say ‘trans people should stop speaking over intersex people’ the answer should not be less acknowledgement that intersex people exis, the answer should be more working together, more sharing of the platforms that transgender people currently have, more giving intersex people the chance to speak next to you.
