the shitty, cynical truth about trans fundraisers is that the need for financial support among trans people consistently outweighs the financial resources we as a demographic have at our disposal
and every fundraiser just gets passed around roughly the same group of mostly young, mostly poor trans people, most of whom can do nothing more than signal boost to an audience made up of many of the same young low-income trans people
and here’s where we usually talk about how cis accomplices need to step up but – a lot of the cis people who are actually conscious of the need to give direct financial support to trans people aren’t the financially secure ones themselves
the hypothetical Financially Stable Cishet Ally has never been listening in the first place
anyway one of my best friends might go to jail and i don’t know what the fuck to do
Yeah, this is a thing.
& then there’s tension when it is clear that the young/thin/pretty/white trans people get most money because there is so little to go around to begin with.
Also one of the mistakes of ‘ally thinking’ is assuming allies are mostly in a very good place, or that allies are at least a representative cut of the general population. While in reality real commited allies are mostly people who are passionate about fighting injustice because they’re going through similar shit.
