Russia has apparently gotten bored of being “Disturbingly like Nazi Germany” and instead decided to just drop all pretense and be Literally Nazi Germany instead of even making the tiniest effort to pretend that they’re not
And just to be clear I’m not trying to make light of this situation I snark because it’s the only thing that stops me literally fucking vomiting in fear when I think of the Jewish, queer and trans people trapped living in this godforsaken hellpit pretending to be a country who will HOPEFULLY be able to immigrate to a REAL country before things get even worse in this shithole “nation”
Russia has a long history with state sanctioned antisemitism. This doesn’t make them like Nazi Germany, it makes them like Russia. To immediately shift state-sanctioned antisemitism to being like Nazi Germany makes it removes what is actually happening from current and historical contexts. Any state that is antisemitic is not like nazi Germany. It could be like Italy, where we were placed in ghettos, or like virtually every European country that expelled us at some point in time. Or like Russia, which created “The protocols of the Elders of Zion” (which is responsible for the modern version of the jews control everything conspiracy), had pogroms, and used antisemitism as a political tactic in the USSR.
Trying to segregate any antisemitism to being like Nazis removes a huge swath of history and removes the responsibility of individuals and nations to own up to their historical and ongoing antisemitism. This isn’t new. I’m only in the US because of antisemitism in Poland and Russia at the beginning of the 20th century. The Nazi didn’t invent antisemitism so please stop pretending like they did.
