+ I feel that there may be truth in the statement that we cannot liberate Palestine as long as we are still oppressed and suppressed by dictators outside of Palestine. I’ve also thought of how even when Palestine is liberated (amin) as a country, that does not mean the liberation of us Palestinians as a people as long as this status quo of oppression and dictatorship still exists in the region. Do you see a relation between Palestinian liberation and other ME liberation movements in that way?
YES! I absolutely 100% agree!! I’ve always said that Palestinian issues are transnational because the Palestinian issue is not unique to Palestine but it’s also not exclusive to Palestine so when we criticise Israel, we always try to do our due part in also criticising the other Arab states for mistreating Palestinians, particularly refugees. And, exactly. Palestine cannot be truly liberated as long as the Middle East is also in shambles. All our struggles are inherently linked. What’s the use of a liberated Palestine if Kurdistan is also not independent? What is the use of a liberated Palestine if we still have a religious Saudi state persecuting political dissidents and abusing minority Muslims, non-Muslims and anyone who isn’t Sunni. What’s the point of a liberated Palestine if corrupt Middle Eastern dictators are still in power? This is also why I don’t buy it when people say they support Assad because of his so-called “support” for Palestine. We don’t fight for justice for one, but for all.
