What the fuck??? Fuck nazis, how the hell dare they steal the rune for PROTECTION from nordic (scandinavian mythology/finnish) people??? I almost got it a s a tattoo, and if I see it on any disgusting neo-nazi assbags I will fucking punch them even harder than I was originally planning to.  Fuck you, fuck you, fuck you.

Yeah, bit of history here: amongst the original nazis was a group who believed that the ultimate ‘master race’ was Germans of Nordic origins and that for this master race to regain their culture they needed to return to the roots of German/Nordic (they mixed these things as if they were identical) culture, spirituality, natural healing, etc.

They took this to extremes and the SS had projects on recovering lost herbal healing remedies, expeditions to Tibet to look for Germanic roots of the Chinese empire, revitalizing the spirit of the German people through mineral water and a project devoted to finding the place where the lost city of Atlantis would return to earth. I’m not even kidding.

The use of runes in rituals, propaganda and military unit symbolism was part of this weird nazi spirituality.

Some neonazis believe all that shit and if you dig into places like atlantipedia.com you’re likely to find some neonazis there. Other neonazis practice a warped form of racist paganism commonly called

‘Odinism. Other neonazis just use the runes as a way to communicate who they are in a way that’s less obvious and less illegal than wearing a swastika in public.

I knew about some of this (not all, thank you!), but like what the fuck?? And is odinism as a term completely taken over by the nazis? ‘Cause I want to know which way I refer to peple who follow old norse religions without saying “nazis” (in finland we have our own term for those who follow old finnish religions but what about other areas?) -.- Seriously though why the fuck have they decided to take pagan religion to be a part of their fuck up? ‘Cause as well as I remember nazis were pretty secular originally, so I don’t even get the logic here.

I’m just so fucking pissed right now.

Yeah, even Hitler was never all that enthusiastic about nazi spiritualism and thought it was mostly nonsense but he didn’t bother to take that toy away from the high up nazis that loved it.

How much Odinism is associated with Nazism seems to vary from place to place, but that goes for all symbols that nazis have stolen. In general, I think on most English language paganist website the use of ‘Odinism’ as code for ‘nazi paganism’ is well known? and I think people who identify as Odinists and do not like racism will probably have the decency to publically reject it? So if someone who calls themselves an Odinist doesn’t publically denounce nazis, maybe keep your guard up?
