Saying “Gender is fake so how are people trans?” is like saying “Money is fake so how are people poor?” Like as much as we facetiously say gender is fake, “social construct” is not synonymous with “fake”
You know what else is a social construct?
Art. History. Politics. Religion. Economics. Education. Career. Family.
True. Gender is a harmful oppressive social construct (like a few other things on that list) but to claim that transgender people are ‘upholding it’ by making language about their struggle with this oppressive construct and their existence in opposition to this construct, is ridiculous. It really is like claiming that people ‘uphold capitalism’ when they describe themselves as being poor.
