Less “all kinds are good” bullshit
More “all sexual experiences are impacted by rape culture and various -isms”
More “presenting kinks that resemble rape culture and various -isms as born-this-way erases how deeply our society shapes our desires, which is incredibly dangerous”
More “the closer your kink resembles rape culture and sexism/racist/transphobic tropes the more likely you are to attract a large group of people who are sexist, racist, transphobic and into forcing themselves on other people”
More “over the years kink communities dominated by racists, sexists, rapists etc form kink cultures that normalize open racism, sexism and consent violations.”
More “clubs and online platforms that profit of kink have a vested interest in silencing survivors and pretending that rape just doesn’t happen here”
More “communities that focus on telling the nasty outside workd how non-rapist they are will spend a lot of energy silencing survivors and making sure rapists in their community are not held accountable”
More “kinky can be great, eroticising rape and oppression is not”
Less “you are either 100% pro all kinks or you are kink shaming”
More complex critical narratives on kink.
To the above point about complexity:
Kink can be used to heal rape trauma and provide emotional/sexual boundary work & exploration
I’ve written about this a few times and yeah, kink CAN be a road to navigate trauma, explore boundaries and work through all sorts of issues BUT the kind of ‘kink as trauma’ that most survivors get offered within kink communities is not all that useful and mostly one-size-is-hot-for-the-dominant.
