politicizing lesbianism hurts lesbians. lesbianism isn’t a meter of morality, but a sexuality. shitty people can be lesbians, good people can be lesbians. expecting every lesbians being a YASSSSS QUEEEN UWU UWU YAASSSS PURE BEING!!! is dehumanizing and frankly childish. you do not seem to realize that lesbians are humans and lesbianism is basically a human trait.

Absolutely. I’ve never done anything of the sort. But I’m guessing you got pissed off by this post so let me break down that post into little bits for you:

The key defining fact about lesbianism is attraction to women.

That’s literally the only thing that makes a woman a lesbian: the fact that she’s attracted to women. Not every woman. Not all women. But any women that has that something that sets their heart on fire. Women with red hair. Women with bushy eyebrows. Women with a vagina. Women with a penis. Women with neither.

Black women. Fat women. Femme women. Women.

Lesbian = attracted to women

Right? Ok.

TERFs who try to change that to ‘attraction to vaginas’ are transphobic, cissexist and frankly, just plain sexist, by reducing women to their genitals. If that’s not a harmful way to ‘politicize lesbianism’, I don’t know what is.

But more importantly for this conversation: if they are attracted to people with vaginas, rather than to women, they do not meet the most basic definition of what a lesbian is.

Lesbian = attracted to women

Person with vagina = a man, woman or neither

Therefore attracted to vagina =/= attracted to women

So attracted to vagina =/= lesbian

It’s that simple.

And I know there’s gonna be terfs out there now losing their shit claiming that I’m “forcing them to like penis” and to that I say: no I’m not. No one cares whether you like penis. If you’re transphobic, please by all means, leave trans women alone. But if you define your attraction as

‘attraction to vaginas’ and try to force that on other people as the new definition of lesbianism, don’t expect me to call you a lesbian.

A vagina is not a woman. A woman is not a vagina.

If you started defining lesbianism as ‘attraction to people with brown hair’ or ‘attraction to people with a thigh gap’, I wouldn’t call you a lesbian either.
