TBH I kind of hate that Pride is all about love like I think about love constantly all day because I’m madly in love with my girlfriend but also I’m trans and like.. being trans has nothing to do with love… idk it feels like we’re an afterthought
basically straight people whose position on lgbt rights is “I think anyone should be able to love whoever they want” should think a little bit harder about things
not just straight people. cis queer/lgb+ people as well.
In addition to erasing transgender people, the focus on love also erases conversations about…. SEX. All the ways in which our sexualities deviate from the norm are hidden from the conversation in favour of a ‘respectable’ conversation about love. This constantly reinforces the idea that while it is okay for us to love someone, the nitty gritty of queer sex is to nasty to mention.
