Hey lovely people!
I’m looking for good articles, blogs, vlogs, comics, zines, whatever on:
Making your organizing less white
So far a lot of the material I’ve come across is either targetted at business and not really relevant to activism, or symplifies the whole thing to ‘just invite and prioritize POC’. While that’s all coming from a good place it isn’t really helpful as it generally ignores:
- that most POC aren’t all that likely to join a currently all-white organization (and shit, I don’t blame them. I’m not likely to join an all-cis organisation either. Jikes)
- that most all-white organisations aren’t prepared for the amount of tokenizing that individual members generally throw at their first members of color and the growing pains of actually making your organisation less racist in ways that you didn’t notice before
- how to overcome the structural problems that make white people more likely to consider themselves qualified (even when they’re totally not) and to be considered qualified for complicated positions in organising.
- more stuff
So who knows any good articles that do go beyong ‘just invite POC’?
Thanks!
