eh, there’s not much to expand on- the YPG, the military associated with Rojava, has been fighting against ISIS in Syria for a while, and the YPG/Rojava are rooted in a blend of marxist/leninist and anarchist influences (they started as a standard marxist-leninist group back in the day, but after Abdullah Ocalan met with Murray Bookchin they incorporated anarchist influences and got a really sweet synthesis going on.
a few western leftists have also gone out there to help them fight ISIS, most famously that twitter guy Brace Belden.

like in light of this it’s hilarious that fash accuse leftists of being soft on islamist extremism when leftists are the one’s out there actually fighting against ISIS.
Ocalan actually never met Bookchin. Ocalan went to prison in the late 90s, and read Bookchin in prison. Bookchin and he corresponded and Bookchin wanted to visit Kurdistan but by the time they tried to arrange it, Bookchin was too old/sick to travel and he died soon later
my bad, thanks for the correction
