The Jewish community of Charlottesville had to hire private, armed security because the cops wouldn’t protect their synagogue from nazis.
The police are complicit in nazism. Do not forget this.
The police were ordered to stand down. This means to act against either side. It wasn’t the police officers’ fault but whoever ordered the stand down, either the chief or mayor.
Then they are complicit. They are willing to risk innocent lives just to keep their jobs, when their job should be to protect those innocent lives. If they truly cared they would disobey their orders; it is their moral responsibility to disobey unjust commands, even if it means losing their jobs to prevent the loss of lives.
@creation-of-pokerus you’re dismissing police neglect and mental abuse. Police often go against the rules and their chain of command without any harm coming to their positions of power.
Them being ordered to stand down does not act against the nazis, the nazis faced no opposition from Jewish members of the synagogue. The nazis benefited from the lack of opposition from the police. To stand down is to acknowledge that either side means no harm to the other, and implies that they have equal power. Hold whomever ordered it accountable, but an officer’s job is not more important than Jewish lives.
How can you read this article and blog post, knowing the fear that these people went through and come to the protection of the cops? What the fuck is wrong with you?
I could write a whole long rant here about how the police do not exist to protect us and are more likely to protect Nazis than minorities but instead I wanna point out something that should really be obvious:
If your response to
“Not protecting Jewish people from Nazis"
is
“They were just following orders”
You are exactly the kind of person that would allow the Holocaust to happen all over again.
I know that you don’t think of yourself that way, but everything about your behavior shows that you are.
