god not to beat a dead  horse but peak MOGAI tumblr is taking a Serious symptom of sexual trauma that is Absolutely Not a part of a healthy sex life and should be a sign that you should seek help. and calling it a sexuality

this is like…a major symptom of abuse jeez

It also takes about 5 seconds of googling to find out that this was produced by a DeviantArt&Tumblr user who does nothing but make flags and made literally hundreds of flags for everything they can think of, from ‘retrosexual’ to ‘holographicsexual’. No really, there’s retrosexual:

Their post has zero likes or comments on Deviantart and the only post in the ‘dissociatesexual’ tag on Tumblr is theirs. Don’t pretend that this is remotely representative of any discourse or movement on Tumblr. One person with a massive weird flag collection is not discourse.

This is not a thing. There are tons of problems in identity politics but this is not one of them.

This post has 6500+ notes of people angry about this when the truth is that absolutely no one on Tumblr uses ‘dissociatesexual’ as an identity. What an absolute waste of all of our time.

This is no better than when anti-SJW blogs taking out of context screenshots or screenshots of troll blogs and claiming it was posted by an actual person involved in Social Justice.

I don’t know that it proves anything one way or another, but the OP asserts in a reply to this post:

since you all insist on being annoying heres the post its from again, which has 2k notes. @queeranarchism are you gonna acknowledge this? https://bdsmpetplay.tumblr.com/post/151644685378/go-learn-go-be-educated-early-for-asexual

which, again, claims that they took the “dissociatsexual” flag not from DeviantArt but from here:

That blog could be a troll blog, but it looks more like someone’s awkward kink blog to me, with lots of porn and politics but the occasional personal opinion post.

It’s possible that that Tumblr itself got it from a trollish dA, but I thought it was worth noting. I have no love for exclusionists, but we should try not to be wrong.

I’m not queeranarchism, but as someone who vectored this post here: This seems worth correcting the record, BUT I should also note that I haven’t yet done a spot-check analysis on how many of the reblogs are earnest and how many are reblogging a comment objecting to it (although people will also often reblog a post that has a bunch of random stuff in it without noticing all of its contents.) It doesn’t seem to be a zero in either column.

The spot-check analysis thing in particular is important; early in the discourse there were several posts that went around as examples of “what aces widely believed” that in actual reality were examples of “how many people are willing to reblog a refutation of a shitty post with unfortunate implications”, but this was before the notes format simplified and so you had to really dig to find it, which led to War on Christmas-style outrage farming.

Yes, this. That post has 2000 notes but a LOT of them seem to be angry comments criticizing it and reblogs of angry comments.

Stop pretending that 1 or 2 people with very very very very few people supporting them are ‘mogai discourse’ or ‘ace discourse’ when there is no active tag space for this term, no personal ‘how I realized I was …’ posts, nothing that suggests that this is anything other than a one-off thing that got most of its publicity from people getting mad about it.
