Wait, are there people that truly believe America DIDN’T lose the Vietnam War?

Fuck you, we decided we didn’t want to kick their asses anymore. Losing a war implies surrender or the elimination of the ability to make war; there was neither. Not being worth beating doesn’t mean you won.

America got its ass beat

“We’re not owned! We’re not owned!!” Americans continue to insist as they rapidly evacuate Saigon

“elimination of the ability to make war” lmao imagine being this uninformed about the state of United States in 1973. How can you wage war when half of your draft offices are burned husks and you can’t find even a single kid left who’s willing to sign up for your army meanwhile guerrilla and terrorist groups are waging protracted campaigns to bomb your national infrastructure and assassinate your political leadership. At the same time domestic heavy industry is being decimated by deindustrialization and there’s literally nothing the President can do or say to convince hundreds of millions of Americans that every word out of his mouth isn’t a lie. At this very same moment hundreds of US soldiers in Vietnam are deserting every day and others still are forming unions and refusing to fight. Which really is the key here. Despite everything else, how exactly do you expect to fight a war when your soldiers are preparing to turn their guns on their own officers? Not only did the US lose the Vietnam War, but if they tried fighting it any longer than they did they would have lost a lot more than Vietnam.
