It’s really weird to me how much of the way people here defend human lives relies on like the labor/material benefits those lives have provided like eww no muslims don’t deserve to live and practice their religion just because they invented coffee and plastic surgery and dreamers don’t just deserve to stay in America because they pay taxes they deserve it because they’re human and they’re entitled to basic human rights
It’s like the only thing keeping y’all from being racist or islamophobic or xenophobic is the fact that you benefit from these people’s existence and even if it is for the sake of argument why are you arguing with people who want to remove the rights of others with logic as if they possess any in the first place
This goes for a lot of “well intentioned” liberal arguments:
Physically/mentally disabled people deserve care and support…so that they can become productive members of society
Undocumented individuals shouldn’t be deported….because who else is gonna do that job/pick produce for less than minimum wage
People should have access to healthcare…so that they can well enough to work/be productive members of society
Everyone deserves access to higher education…so that they can, once again, become productive members of society.
None of these arguments actually defend or support the people they claim, rather, they defend the labor that can be exploited from them. It’s selfishness thinly veiled as a compassionate and practical compromise.
