People who like to think of themselves as good guys without ever actually doing anything will often first declare that a change is first impossible (and thus a waste of their time), then a hype distracting from other issues

and finally when the change is almost there they will declare that it has always been inevitable (and thus a waste of their time). At every stage they pardon themselves by pretending that changes for better or worse are like the weather, instead of something brought about by people who fight for it.
