these UN reports and other news articles about conditions of extreme poverty and disease in the southern US and parts of the midwest that are like “the hidden secret” or “new studies reveal” are so upsetting bc honestly? we’ve known about this! even those of us who don’t live in these largely black (& native) areas have known that this was happening. flint, mi – probably the most famous example rn of unlivable conditions/lack of basic resources –  just spent years in the news, and those people still don’t have clean water.

we don’t have a lack-of-knowledge problem, we have an environmental racism and capitalism problem
