24/7 capitalism pushes people to abuse stimulants imo
oh absolutely. the use and abuse of stimulants is heavily influenced and demanded by capitalism. From the overconsumption of coffee during the Industrial Revolution, to vyvanse & ritalin abuse on present day college campuses, to food service workers doing cocaine during breaks, to truck drivers taking methamphetamines, our society is full of workers pushing themselves to the utmost physical and psychological limits to keep working at the breakneck pace and long hours that are demanded of them in order to earn a living.
“work” and "productivity,” and, ultimately, “profit” are the objects that rule us. This is capitalism, where humans are sacrificed for the benefit of the inhuman “capital.”
And then there’s yuppies who microdose psychedelics to be more creative at work…
