a transition to socialism will require the herculean task of restructuring your economy to focus on local food production regardless of your overall political structure, as it is most states rely heavily on imported food and you’ll have to know how many farms to plant and how much equipment and seeds to provide for local projects. that’s like, order of business number 1 imo. even if it’s ultimately unnecessary and international trade doesn’t end b/c of sanctions, it’s important that people know that they will not starve as part of a national communist project.

Fun facts: During the first Zapatista uprising, the Mexican government tried to starve Morales state with sanctions, but the Zapatistas actually saw a massive boom in food availability and general quality of life because their first order of business had been to split up all the big tobacco and sugarcane farms and structure the economy towards growing corn and beans for local consumption.
