I honestly think that if we define ourselves based on our sexuality, nationality, etc, and take pride in those things. It creates a fascist like system. People shouldn’t take pride in things they didn’t choose to be like nationality, sexuality etc. What do you think?

I think there is an immense, enormous, oceans-wide, couldn’t-be-more-different difference between taking pride in an identity that gives you privilege and power and justifying your privilege and power through your identity (in other words: justifying inequality and believing you are superior), and taking pride in an identity because you have survived this far despite all the oppression targetted at you because of your identity (in other words: opposing inequality and celebrating your right to exist).

Which doesn’t mean I don’t see any problems and limits to identity politics. Read my Tumblr and you’ll see loads about that. But like, these are still extremely different kinds of ‘pride in identity’.

I see your point, and I kinda agree. But once we dismantle oppression against all people, we mustn’t take pride things we didn’t accomplish. Yes, we can take pride in the fact we have destroyed oppression, but in an equal society we shouldn’t award people for being gay, of course in the past (and even some societies today) we should support people to gay/bi/trans people to “come out of the closet” and make sure they feel safe (and that they are safe). But once we accomplish an equal society we shouldn’t prioritise lgbtqia+ members above hetero people.

No one is rewarding people for being gay, that’s not a thing that’s happening.

People form communities of support based on shared experiences and they give the people in those communities extra love and appreciation because they know what it’s like to be made to feel ashamed of who you are and they know that the road to loving yourself after that takes longer than most LGBT+ people want to admit. That’s all that happening.

The favoritism that you’re worried about simply will not happen in an equal society because there is no favoritism like that now, there is simply
mutual support based on shared oppression and knowing the scars it leaves.
