You know another really cool possibility? Unemployment Unions!
If your ‘boss’ is the state trying to force you to go through humiliating bureacucracies and submit 100 useless job applications per week to get starvation wage level benefits, YOU CAN UNIONIZE AND RESIST THAT SHIT.
as someone currently going through unemployment right now i agree, but the majority of people think that is the “bare minimum” that a person without a job can do and the state doesn’t actually want you to use all of your unemployment benefits even though that’s quite literally the point of them. like i’ll find a job closer to when they run out, just give me my benefits and go.
Well, the whole idea of a union is that you do not ask for the things you need to be given to you out if the goodness of the hearts of the bosses, you join forces so that you can demand the things you need. It’s not about what they think you deserve, it’s about what happens when your demands are not met.
Workers unions can go on strike and shut down a factory, unemployment unions have in the past collectively refused to pay tax, rent or bills and have gathered in a mass to force their way into government buildings to seize what they need. Not as permanent strategies but as shows of force, just like a strike, in order to get their needs met.
This is not easy. It’s a real fight and it requires a lot of people, but it beats asking the rich for bread crumbs.
