it’s not about the, like, moral makeup of an individual ‘doggo’ ya dingus, it’s about the fact that the police (which in most places, including western liberal democracies, are an incredibly fucked up institution, although that’s a whole other can of worms) are training dogs to be hyper-aggressive and enact what is often extreme violence bordering on mutilation, and then silencing criticism by propagating this idea of police dogs as cute noble good boys working hard and doing their best, which makes any criticism of the way police dogs are used seem equivalent to someone hating dogs or hating joy or something.

my criticism of cop pages posting cutesy memes of ‘heckin good police puppers’ or whatever isn’t to say i hate dogs or that i think the dogs themselves are inherently terrible (they don’t have… moral agendas… they’re dogs), it’s that the way these dogs are trained and used as weapons of violence, often disproportionately against racial minority groups, is often fucking horrible.
