Do you guys realize that you can just be against America engaging in war without making a huge show of supporting the other side in what might otherwise be called “an optical nightmare”?
You don’t even have to mention the DPRK, for instance, to be like “invading places is bad”. In fact, it helps since most Americans actually have a negative opinion about the DPRK if you’d believe it.
Not to mention, for Koreans, this whole situation is complicated because while we can acknowledge that South Korea has roots in government propped up by America against Korean people’s wishes, DPRK, too, is a symptom of continuation of Chinese Imperialism against Korean people. While you can condemn American intervention in the Peninsula, rallying for DPRK just means you’re swapping an neo-imperial oppressor for an old imperial oppressors, for which Korean people have a lot more memory of oppression of, to support because this one doesn’t look like America.
This is why a lot of PoC are more and more looking at Post-Colonial Anarchism, and are looking to form activism away from spheres of sociality that doesn’t respect their culture, by the way. It’s really alienating once again to come to a space that’s supposed to be liberatory, only to find that it’s rampant with orientalism and willful ignorance of our culture, not to mention tokenism.
