Of course it does not make you a bad person. Not at all. Queer has a specific political meaning and no one thinks that all lgbt people should identify as queer. You can identify as whatever you’re comfortable with and it’s totally fine.
But queer people do want to call themselves queer without constantly being attackted for it or see their Tumblr posts being tagged ‘q-slur’ and ‘q***r’ as if their identity is something nasty.
And queer people do want to be able to call their shared experiences with other queer people things like ‘queer community’ and to speak of things like ‘queer parties’, ‘queer women’ etc without getting attacked over it.
Words like ‘gay’ are used as a slur just as much and when the word
‘queer’ is singled out for special attention and ‘q-slur’ tags or even attacks, it tells
queer people that they’re not really welcome or safe. The people pushing that
feeling of unwelcomeness
and unsafety are mostly transphobes, biphobes, aphobes and other exclusionists that feel threatened by the fluidness of queer identities.
If you’re not contributing to that, you’re absolutely fine.
