Two year old Mawda Shawri was shot by police in Belgium

A Belgian cop killed a two-year-old Kurdish girl during a high-speed chase of a van transporting refugees in Belgium on May 17th, 2018. The toddler died in an ambulance on her way to hospital.

The cop that fired and hit Mawda twice claims to have aimed for the driver of the van, but the fact that he chose to shoot at the driver of a van going 90 km/hour itself demonstrates a disregard for the safety of the passengers. In the van were 30 people all of Kurdish origin.

The Belgian police released several reports that later proved to be false, once claiming that Mawda had not died from gunshots at all and later claiming that shots had been fired from the van first and the cops were acting in self-defense. Both statements were later withdrawn when evidence and witness statements contradicted the reports.

When the van stopped in response to the shooting, Mawda’s parents were seperated from their child and arrested while they were begging for someone to help their daughter. Mawda died alone while her parents spend 48 hours in jail without knowing what was happening to their daughter. The media knew about her dead for over a day before the parents received the news.
