When I say ‘appreciate small victories’,
I mean that a single squat that
resists eviction is an autonomous space preserved, a single refugee
saved from deportation is a comrade that’s still with us, a single night on which we take the street back from fascists/cops is a celebration of our collective power and an inspiration for the days to come, a single day in which our communities experience joy, safety and a sense of belonging is a day lived in defiance. Small autonomous spaces and experiences matter.
I do not mean ‘appreciate minor reforms by which the oppressive systems create the illusion of progress while ultimately making things worse for us whenever they can’. The endless dedication of reformists to those ‘small victories’ is pretty destructive.
