The meanings behind the colors.
Gay pride flag – Gilbert Baker (1978)
we took out sex and magic
and look at what we made
we took the chance to earn our rights
by becoming sexless
unthreatening
where is our magic
when did we decide to give up the right to everything that can’t be explained
the fantastical
the wonderful
our fae and queer are prepackaged
bought and sold for wednedsay night television
no femmes no fats no asians
when did all our magic, all our aggressive sexuality
get taken over
mistreated
confined
eviscerated
stuffed
and prepackaged
so that our oppressors could feel comfortable binge watching it on netflix
every part of our resistance
that ever drew a comment
removed
maybe now we can be allowed to live
is this what our forefathers meant when they talked about freedom?
we played the game and won our right
we only had to pay with submission
death
poverty
seperation
sanitation
what faith can we have in our own
when there’s no limit to what we’ll give
no line we won’t cross
we didn’t win this fight
we lost another battle
cut off our edges until they fit within a box that wasn’t ever designed to free us
if freedom comes at such a cost it isn’t freedom
we cannot claim a victory built on such a loss
