Those last tweets are important. When you build the foundations, you also have to keep on building the resistance because you need both.

Nothing you build will last if you can’t defend it.

Anything build without defense in mind relies on the mercy of the people in power, which do not give a shit about us and know our movements are a threat to their power.

Why did you think the Black Panther Party was appealing to the community? It wasn’t just b/c the guns. They provided to the people’s needs.

Notice the ‘just’ there. The guns, meaning in this case the willingness and ability to protect the community,
follow police cars, confront white supremacists, were definitely part of the appeal.

Safety is a basic need too, and safety can not exist at the mercy of the state, it only exists when we’re willing to defend it. That is true whether you’re building a massive movement or a small safer space at a party.
