This is a backup of Queeranarchism.Tumblr.com. —- Due to the back-up process this site currently includes almost everything I have ever reblogged, so click the text 'posts by queeranarchism tumblr' in the menu option if you want to go directly to posts I have written myself.
Thing to consider: can you make whatever you are organizing accessible for people who fall just outside your own ‘group’ but may need the same thing?
Are your resources on access to hormones and surgeries accessible to gendernonconforming cisgender people who want either?
Are your resources on same-sex adoption accessible to that straight person who is in a relationship with that one exception to their usual orientation? or who wants to co-parent with their best friend?
Can you create a supportive environment that welcomes human complexity and paradox? Or are you gonna get stuck in a ‘you have to be this kind of person to be deserving of our help’ thinking?
Like, with very little extra effort you actually get to help people who have a need that no one else is providing for,
while widening the understanding that these systems of oppression actually hurt everyone and like,
we start creating revolutionary change through solidarity and helping each other get what we need, which the system is holding from us by force.
theculturedmarxist: That sounds all well and good, but what does getting someone
hormones or helping their gay adoption do to progress the class
struggle, or even to expand understanding of these systems of
oppression?
Like, you help people who have a need that no one else is providing for.
While widening the understanding that these systems of oppression that stop people from accessing hormones and adopting kids with two people of the same sex actually hurt everyone even cis and straight people who find themselves in unexpected circumstances.
And we start creating revolutionary change through understanding this, building solidarity and helping
each other get our needs met, which the system is holding from us all by
force.
Solidarity + understanding the interconnectedness of our struggles + having our basic needs met = potential to do revolutionary work together.
I don’t know how to spell this out more obviously and if this is too complicated for you I have nothing left to say because this stuff is so basic.
