I see all the posts/am aware of how things like plastic consumption and water use etc are largely a problem because of corporations that are not regulated and producing tons of waste. In your opinion is it still worthwhile for the individual to do things like recycle and reduce plastic consumption?

It’s not a completely useless thing to do, but it won’t solve the problem.

Like, if there is a nice lake that you and your friends occassionaly pee in and that Big Corporations Under Capitalism dump toxic waste in, the water quality of the lake will go up slightly if you and your friends stop peeing in it. So not peeing in the lake is an objectively good thing. But it’ll still be full of toxic waste.

And having a big ‘don’t pee in the lake’ awareness campaign would be a pretty obvious distraction from the toxic waste problem.

And demanding that your disabled friend climbs the hill to the public toilets because ‘Peeing In the Lake Is Bad’ would make you a pretty shitty ableist person.

In the end, banding together with your friends and fighting the Big Corporations Under Capitalism is the only way you will actually get a clean lake.
