Idk a whole lot about it but in some places in the states an alternative to Pride is Queerbomb. They don’t take sponsors and are supported by the community, which can be an issue in itself. Dallas Queerbomb this year was nowhere near it’s financial goal by the time it was happening and the donation page had been up, I think, all year.

I have never been to Queerbomb, so I can’t really comment on that event.

But for a start, I think we should organize alternative pride events as protests, where money doesn’t decide whether we march, just how many flyers we can print and how many banners we’ll have and how good a sound system we can rent. But we’ll march anyway.

A protest needs some money, for promotion, for banners, for supplies for the medical team and legal team, etc.
But you can DIY a protest with very little funds, activists do that all the time. And there are activist funds specifically committed to funding demonstrations.

Let’s remember that the people we remember at Compton and Stonewall, rioted without a budget ir a gofundme campaign. Let’s remember all the times we took to the streets with no money at all, just because what we were protesting for was important.

We don’t need official t-shirts, we don’t need a good sound system, we don’t need musicians, they’re all just a bonus. Our rage is the key ingredient. If we care about retaking the streets for queer people, we can just go out and do it.
