the police have tanks, sonic weapons, and don’t currently adhere to any law or internal rule whatsoever prioritizing citizen safety which has encouraged an internal culture of Us-V-Them. they’re pretty well prepared.
The people outnumber them though, by a massive margin
- The Netherlands: 380
cops for every 100.000 people - The UK: 300
cops for every 100.000 people - Germany: 296
cops for every 100.000 people - The US: 284
cops for every 100.000 people - Canada: 180 cops for every 100.000 people
250 to 500 of us for every 1 of them.
Not to mention that police need to constantly be everywhere, guarding all the fences, protecting all the banks, all the millionaires. They’re always spreading out their forces very thinly because their job demands it.
I’m not saying that those weapons aren’t terrifying, I’m just saying cops aren’t nearly as all-powerful as they pretend to be.
Their success depends on maintaining an illusion of complete control against a population that massively outnumbers them and can exploit any opportunity.
