On a straight forward level I understand people who say stuff like this:

Like, I understand why this line of reasoning is tempting when it is right there to be pointed out, but on another level…
If something terrible happened and the people making it happen did have the approval of 2% more of the population, thereby forming a majority, the political system would only be very slightly less broken.
A real majority deciding a very unjust thing isn’t suddenly justice.
Even if people weren’t intensely manipulated by a complete lack of independent media (which they are),
were able to vote easily and without limitations (which they are not),
were given a choice between candidates who present truly different political views (which they are not), who kept their promises (which they don’t), and didn’t only represent the interests of the companies and millionaires that pay for their campaigns (which they do),
So even if democracy worked exactly as the theory of democracy – which it has never done anywhere, but suppose it did.
A real majority deciding a very unjust thing isn’t suddenly justice.
